How do I find the primary hot button?

You ask them to prioritize — you don't guess. The primary hot button is the motive that outranks the others, and the homeowner will usually rank their own motives if you ask. Until then, the signals point: what they repeat, what they ask about, what carries energy when they say it.

The short answer

Ask, then verify against the signals

The direct route is a priority question — of everything we've talked about, what matters most to you here? Homeowners answer it more honestly than reps expect, because being asked what matters is a relief, not a tactic. Then verify the answer against the signal record from discovery: priority language (“the biggest thing is…”), repetition across the conversation, the questions they initiated, and where their reactions ran strongest. If the signals contradict the stated priority, layer once more — the stated one may be the polite one.

How it runs

Primary runs the presentation; secondary builds the case

The ranking matters because it allocates your scarcest resource: emphasis. The primary hot button determines where the presentation spends its time and what the close is built around. The secondary buttons are not leftovers — they build the rest of the case, each getting its moment, none getting the primary's weight. Two homeowners can choose the same roof for completely different reasons; the rep who presents both reasons at equal volume has effectively presented neither.

And stop giving every homeowner the same presentation. That habit is what the primary hot button exists to kill.
