Summer route work: a cold knock in a neighborhood your company already services, with a homeowner who swears they have no bugs.
The setup
The route is documented and so is the knock: you're already in the neighborhood, the truck is two streets over, and the homeowner at this door is giving you the standard first ten seconds — arms crossed, “we don't have a bug problem,” door already drifting shut.
Pest control is door work before it is anything else, and this round is the documented door system in its purest form: the Initial Pitch delivered as one run-on run — who you are, your company, why you stopped, the free estimate, no obligation, guaranteed in writing for the future, already in the neighborhood — then the Transition and the First Rebuttal when the brush-off comes.
“Yeah? What do you want?”
What the round trains
The door itself: the initial pitch, the transition, and the first rebuttal, word for word — plus qualifying the decision makers and setting a real appointment. No in-home step is part of this drill.
The round trains the pitch word for word and the discipline under it: door knockers never talk numbers in this system — the in-home expert builds the exact investment at the appointment. The drill ends where the system says a door ends: a set appointment, all decision makers present.
How Spar scores it
Every round ends in a scorecard — your language, your move, and whether both decision makers stayed in the conversation. This round is graded against the documented door system — the pitch, the transition, and the first rebuttal, word for word.
The grade turns on the documented language and the landing. Quoting an investment at the door fails the round; so does a “stop by sometime” instead of a set time. The scorecard credits the pitch run clean and the appointment set with every decision maker named.
The language scan runs on every round: the system’s words — approve, overall investment, work order, monthly investment plan, move forward — or the scorecard shows you where the wrong words leaked in.
This round is Round 1 in Fight Camp — and Round 1 is free: the Cold Door Knock round, the Trial Closes drill, and Word Check are free on the Fight Camp page. The full camp unlocks with membership.
Go deeper: the full objection — “Not Interested” at the door; the deep dive — Canvassing — the documented door system; this trade’s other drill — Missing Decision Maker; the Pest Control track — Pest Control sales training.
Spar’s documented system is trade-agnostic by design: the published position is that the sales psychology and the rebuttals are the same in every in-home trade — only the examples change. This page runs Spar’s documented rounds in a pest control setting; it does not present pest control-specific scripts.
In sparring, the homeowner pushes back the way yours will — talks back, interrupts, pushes on the money — and the scorecard grades the run against the documented system. Train the pest control version until the response is reflex — $29/month. Spar before you knock.
