Trial Closes

Don’t wait until the end to find out you’re losing. Trial Closes test the temperature all the way through the appointment — at every meaningful decision point.

When it runs

Throughout the appointment — not at the end of it

A trial close runs after the product, after the installation story, after the company story, after a solution connects to their hot button — and as a final check before the overall investment is presented. It is not the final close: it asks where the homeowner is in the decision, not whether they are moving forward.

Trial close both decision makers. One spouse’s yes never covers the other’s silence — the silent decision maker is where appointments quietly die.

What it is

The decision, built piece by piece

A complete buying decision is really several decisions stacked together: the project, the product, the company, the installation, the rep, the outcome, and the investment. Trial closes settle them one at a time. When a piece is settled, stop selling it and move on — re-selling a settled piece only reopens it.

They are diagnostic as much as they are persuasive. A strong commitment tells you to keep going; a weak one tells you exactly where the appointment is leaking. Ask questions that can produce a real answer, never manufacture yeses, and use their hot button in the question — the trial close lands hardest when it connects the piece to the reason they called you.

  • Ask for buying commitments — real answers, not head-nods.
  • When a piece of the decision is settled, stop selling it.
  • Trial close both decision makers, every time.
  • Weak commitments are information. Diagnose them, do not paper over them.
  • Run the pre-investment check before the number: is there anything they are not completely comfortable with?
The language — documented
“How do you feel about the system so far?”
“Does that address the installation concerns you mentioned earlier?”
“How are you feeling about us as a company?”
“What’s the part you’re still unsure about?”
“Before we get into the investment, is there anything we’ve gone through that you’re not completely comfortable with?”

Where it fits

One system, twelve closes

Trial Closes feed every other close — they tell you which of the twelve the moment actually calls for, and whether the ground is ready for it. One of the twelve closes drilled in Spar Fight Camp.

Every close on this page is taught from Frankie J’s documented training — the same system Spar grades against in live AI sparring rounds. Read the full library on The Twelve Closes, see how the closes sit inside the 7-step system, and drill this one until it is reflex with a Spar membership.

Drill the Trial Closes until it’s reflex

Reading about a close is not the same as running it against a homeowner who pushes back. Spar is the AI sparring partner built on Frankie J’s exact system — live voice rounds, graded against the playbook, for $29/month. Spar before you knock.
