Higher Authority Close

The manager call is not a white flag. Run right, the Higher Authority Close gets the commitment first — then gets approval for a number the homeowner has already agreed to.

When it runs

When everything else is sold and only the number stands in the way

Before this close exists, everything else must be sold: the product, the company, the installation, and you. If something else is still open, a lower number will not fix it — you will get approval and still not get the job.

The sequence matters. Isolate the investment. Establish the number they are trying to be at. Get the conditional commitment. Flip the proposal over and get that commitment on the proposed number. Then — and only then — make the call.

What it is

A call with a purpose, not a negotiation against yourself

The homeowner should understand exactly what you are doing: you are taking a ready-to-move-forward customer to your manager and asking whether the number can be approved. That framing protects you — you are the advocate carrying their commitment upward, not the opponent across the table.

Never guarantee the approval. If the manager says yes, you already have the commitment — move forward. If the manager meets them halfway, the new figure goes back with the same structure. If the answer is no, you have lost nothing: the commitment conversation already told you where the decision actually lives.

  • Isolate the investment first — is the number the only barrier?
  • Establish their number: where were they hoping to be?
  • Get the commitment on the proposed number before the call, never after.
  • One call with a purpose — never call the manager over and over.
  • Never negotiate against yourself while you wait, and never sound desperate.
The language — documented
“Gotcha. So where were you hoping to be?”
“Let me ask you this. If I were able to get closer to the number you’re trying to be at, would you folks be willing and ready to move forward?”

Where it fits

One system, twelve closes

The Higher Authority Close can work with the Option Close and the Takeaway Close — but every version starts at the same gate: the Contingency commitment. One of the twelve closes drilled in Spar Fight Camp.

Every close on this page is taught from Frankie J’s documented training — the same system Spar grades against in live AI sparring rounds. Read the full library on The Twelve Closes, see how the closes sit inside the 7-step system, and drill this one until it is reflex with a Spar membership.

Drill the Higher Authority Close until it’s reflex

Reading about a close is not the same as running it against a homeowner who pushes back. Spar is the AI sparring partner built on Frankie J’s exact system — live voice rounds, graded against the playbook, for $29/month. Spar before you knock.
